Te Vaka - Original Contemporary Pacific Music
The debut recording for the New Zealand-based Polynesian band Te Vaka is propelled by the songwriting of Opetaia Foa'i. This album combines the traditional elements of Tokelauan music with contemporary influences. Group harmonies and indigenous instruments (the various types of log drums) are at its core, but acoustic, electric, and bass guitars are integral to their music as well, particularly Foa'i's rhythmic acoustic guitar playing.
