Nêgah Santos - Forró Da Nêgah

Nêgah Santos is a Brazilian-American percussionist, singer, and composer based in New York City whose work bridges Brazilian and Latin traditions from the African diaspora, Jazz, and contemporary popular music - embracing the openness and creativity, exploring the intersection of culture, groove, and improvisation, connecting audiences through the universal language of rhythm.

Recognized for her sensitive musicality and dynamic rhythmic approach, Nêgah Santos has built a reputation as a versatile and expressive collaborator across a wide range of musical settings.

After moving from Brazil to the United States, and graduating from Berklee College of Music, Nêgah Santos has toured extensively around the world and has become an active presence in New York’s vibrant music scene, performing with internationally acclaimed artists and appearing on major stages and broadcasts including The Late Show with Stephen Colbert - as a performer and co-writer of the house band for the past 9 years, earning two Academy Awards and a Peabody.

Some of the artists Nêgah Santos has collaborated with are Jon Batiste, Terri Lyne Carrington, James Taylor, Meshell Ndegeocello, Lake Street Dive, Jon Bellion, Lakecia Benjamin, Louis Cato, Cory Wong, Lawrence, Clinton Cerejo, Joyce Moreno, Alcione, Jorge Aragão, Lia de Itamaracá, Tony Tornado, Riverdance among others.

With her own project, Nêgah Santos pays homage to her Brazilian heritage, composing and arranging music that brings together her influences with all the different communities she has been able to experience and learn from. Whether performing on stage, recording in the studio, collaborating on new artistic projects, or writing compositions of her own, Nêgah Santos approaches rhythm as both foundation and storytelling tool.
